There clearly hasn’t been much writing on this “blog” for quite some time now… Well… Forever really… So I thought I would create a topic to write about. Something that has me a little intrigued at the moment is how much time and emphases is put on social media and this form of living through technology (note, this picture is of one page on my phone - with all my favorite Apps on it). Yes, I effing love using social media and technology myself. I also totally see the value and importance of it in today’s society. Being able to instantly update anyone (and large numbers of people) on where you are, what you’re doing and whom you’re doing it with is both very beneficial and often… wanky. In a business sense, I totally dig social media. We can update people instantly – from anywhere in the world, and communicate with them on a level that hasn’t previously been possible. Getting direct and instantaneous feedback from consumers is an invaluable aspect to a business. On a personal level, I am a total early adopter of technology and social media… I eat it up. This blog is a prime example of not really having anything to say, yet somehow feeling the urge to create something to say - just because the platform is there. I guess blogs are also an amazing example of how small our world has become and how good it is that creativity, the sharing of ideas and information and a sense of community is pretty much available to anyone in any field at any given time. However, there are moments in my life when I need to stop and realize “umm, I actually didn’t see or enjoy any of that sunset because I was too busy taking pictures of it on my phone to put on Instagram” (which will then post to my Facebook and Tumblr newsfeeds, just so more people might ‘like’ it… and do my friends really need to see another image of a sunset from my balcony? I think they have better things to do). A lovely person in my life showed me this video and I actually cringed… Not because I felt sorry for all those “dickheads” but because I might actually be one of them (well, OK, I am). Thankfully, I come from a family who has instilled self-deprecating values in me, so I can see the humorous side and also don’t take things too seriously. So why do I/we still do it? And love it? I guess it’s kind of like eating a whole tub of ice-cream and vowing you will never, ever, EVER do that again… but for some reason you always go back for more. (And yes, I will also continue to post stupid pictures on all social media platforms). LL.
